Okay all you sezzy Oppo boys/girls/tyrannosaurs/pterodactyls/Doges.
I have collected all of your suggestions for my budget based future purchase of a new car. This is as follows:
2015 Volkswagen Golf R
2015 Subaru STi
2015 Audi S3
2015 Jaguar XE
2015 Volvo V60 Polestar
2015 Cadillac CTS
2015 Ford Taurus SHO
2015 Ford Fusion Platinum AWD
2015 Ford Flex Platinum w/Ecoboost
2015 Hyundai Genesis Sedan
2015 Dodge Challenger
2015 Lexus IS-350 F-Sport
2015 Infiniti Q50
2015 Cadillac ATS
2015 BMW 328i
2015 Acura TLX V6 AWD
2015 Volkswagen Golf Sportwagen TDI 4Motion
2013-2015 Lincoln MKS and MKT Ecoboost
2012-2013 Lexus RX 450H
2012-2015 Acura MDX SH-AWD
2015 Volkswagen Tiguan R
2015 Dodge Charger R/T
2015 Ford Edge Sport
2015 Volvo V60 R-Design
Now here is what I need from you lot:
Time permitting today (because it's Thursday and we all barely give any fucks) if you would kindly assist me in optioning up a car from this list on the corresponding automakers website configurator and post in the comments below your findings.
Remember the goal here is to stay as close to $40,000 as possible. I will accept anything below $45,000 - but I live in an 11-12% sales tax state so i'm going to get butt rammed when taxes are added to my purchase.
Once I have the configurations, or if you are especially crafty and find locally listed versions (Nashville, TN) I will be adding them into a personal preference poll so we can generate their ranking before they go in to the bracket. Once in the bracket, my wife and I will test drive each vehicle and make a "test-drive" review of each candidate with pros and cons (think like Top Gear's Top Trumps). After posting those findings to Oppo, I will collect Oppo opinions and also consider them in assigning a victor or each match up all the way until we reach the final candidate.
After careful reconsideration, I will also accept FWD vehicles, nicely equipped crossovers, and small luxury SUVs as candidates as I need to flush out the full bracket. I have not figured out what their conferences will be whether by Drivetrain, engine, or geographical characteristics.
Bear in mind this is a real purchase that is going to happen and whatever we end up with it needs to be something that will outlive it's finance period and up to 15 years of life. We are not the kind of people who by the newest thing and chuck the old one out immediately. We need 4 doors, decent cargo carrying ability, luxury amenities (leather heated/cooled seats, sat-radio, bluetooth) but NO NAV.
Also include any manufacturer purchase incentives, such as Volvo's extra $2,000 on your luxury car trade-in.
Have some footwork by Senna with properly synced audio.
spanfucker retire bitch

The ten year+ DD lifespan budget car always should begin with a two year old used car with all the options. Let someone else take a huge depreciation hit that way you get to buy a Bomb-diggity Cadillac for the same price of 40k new or even less saving more money for beer and women. (or wine and men, or alcohol and meds, whatever your or any one else's tastes may be i'm not limiting anyone's personal lifestyles here)
New is nice but after buying new i'm not doing it again. Senseless honestly in my belief because of how I just financed a payment on $5k of lost depreciation money.

BMW 328i Wagon. European Delivery -> 14-16% off MRSP.

The issue is longevity, the value in buying a car with 0 miles for most likely far less than MSRP (we are auto finance industry connected) outweighs the depreciation because ither way you will have a car payment, may as well get want you want and truthfully in this day and age depreciation on reliable mid class cars is nowhere near where it used to be even 4 yeas ago. People have less money to spend less often so the terms on loans get extended with lower and better interest rates and that initial depreciation hit doesn't hurt as bad.

Cannot into European delivery. Automotive Finance industry connected + multi combat tour decorated veteran —> 0% interest and laughable cuts in markup.

Gotcha! So, how old are you, and add 15 years and think about what sort of car you really want to be in then you're a decade older. so you'll still love keeping it around by then.

Already included in the list is the V60 R-Design Polestar, ^ this will not be added as it is already superseded by a superior vehicle

It won't matter for me, it will be the wife's car. I will still be driving a 1995 Nissan D21 4x4 in 10 years

This is incredibly thorough.
If you're anything like me, you'll just know when you test drive the one.

My top candidates (not that my choice or opinion matter) are the Volvo V60 Polestar, Ford Flex, and Caddy ATS-V (oh wait that is way the fuck outta my price range)

Also, that's not a Polestar car... that's an R design one. There's a big difference. The Polestar car was around 60k...

Thank your for the clarity.
-The things I overlook, you would be amazed, took me two weeks to figure out the hole a guy was digging next to his house in Musa Qalah, was a weapons cache and bomb workshop. Egg on my face.

Honestly Volvo made the naming scheme a bit confusing... R used to be the top of the line... Now R-Design is higher interior trim I think? Polestar is top the roost now. Cross country has always equaled more rugged looking and more ground clearance.

Agreed and configured from the factory the R-design is more expensive than the polestar

No... there's a 10k difference between the true blue (heh) Polestar cars and the fully option R-Design cars. Don't forget for 1k Volvo will slap a Polestar sticker on the car and remap the ECU. The Polestar cars have a bunch of other things.
Here's a review and cost breakdown of the S60 Polestar:

I see that now.....I think it will stay in as long as there is one in Nashville to test drive. If there isn't then R-Design it is. But it's actually a moot point because my wife thinks they are ugly and this will be her car.
